The Advantage of NVNR Day Passes
New Voices New Rooms travels to different cities every year, but the general structure of the program is purposely consistent from year to year: Bus Tours on the first day, education on day two, exhibits on day three, and bookseller retreats on the final day of the conference.
The schedule allows bookstores located within driving distance of the conference to take advantage of NVNR Day Passes — an important part of the ways the conference seeks to keep costs low for booksellers.
Day passes are also a key way NVNR supports bookseller development by encouraging local bookstores to send their entire staff to the event. Day passes allow stores to give more of their employees exposure to the conference, and to send them on days that align with their own roles in the store, and their own plans for career advancement: Buyers when the exhibits are open. Event managers when there are author panels and receptions.
One of the best things store owners can do for their frontline staff is send them to the Frontline Booksellers Retreat on the last day of the conference. Moderated by veteran booksellers, the retreat is a place where bookstore staff – often the people customers meet first – can talk with colleagues and share information. Networking with their fellow booksellers is one of the best ways frontline staff can learn the business and make their time on the sales floor more effective and successful.
